Jordan: US Embassy Issues Airspace Security Alert

The US Embassy in Amman issued an urgent security alert on 11 June 2026 warning all US citizens in Jordan that reports indicated missiles, drones, or rocket-propelled grenades had entered Jordanian airspace. This followed an earlier Embassy security alert on 7 June that urged Americans to exercise heightened caution amid the broader regional security environment. The Embassy directed Americans to seek overhead cover immediately, shelter in place, and monitor announcements from local authorities.

The incident is connected to a broader escalation across the region: Iranian drone and missile launches targeted American and allied military facilities in the Middle East, with a number of projectiles crossing into Jordanian airspace. Jordan’s Armed Forces, working alongside US forces stationed in the country, reported intercepting the incursion. Jordan’s military stated it remained on high alert to protect the country’s sovereignty.

Impact on Flights

Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) recorded at least three flight cancellations and ten delays on 11 June as a direct result of the disruption. Routes affected included services to Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Cairo, and Chicago. Royal Jordanian, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways were among the carriers impacted.

What to Do If You Are in Jordan
