Lufthansa, British Airways and Ryanair Halt Amman Flights to October

Three major European airlines have pushed their Amman restart dates beyond October 2026, sharply reducing the number of direct flight options into Queen Alia International Airport for travellers planning Jordan trips through the rest of the year.

Lufthansa has suspended Amman services until 24 October 2026. British Airways has extended its Amman suspension to 25 October. Ryanair, which had planned to relaunch 17 Amman routes on 3 July, has no flights visible in its schedule until October and is currently offering full refunds to affected passengers.

Royal Jordanian is continuing to operate but on a reduced schedule subject to nightly airspace closures from 6PM to 12AM local time, with free rebooking available for affected passengers.

Getting to Jordan right now

Direct options remain available via carriers that have maintained Middle East operations. Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways (from Doha), and several regional carriers continue to operate Amman services. Indirect routing via Istanbul or Doha adds travel time but offers more predictable scheduling.

For travellers heading to Petra or Wadi Rum, Amman remains the primary gateway — Queen Alia International is the only significant international entry point by air.

Airlines suspending routes under force-majeure conditions are obligated to offer either a full refund or free rebooking on the next available service. Contact your carrier directly rather than relying on automated rebooking systems, which may reroute you through unavailable connections.

If you booked through a third-party agent, check whether your fare includes EU261 protections — British Airways and Lufthansa are EU-adjacent carriers whose passengers may retain some rights even outside the EU.

Outlook

Airlines are extending their suspension windows in two-to-three week increments rather than committing to longer periods, which suggests they are monitoring the situation closely but have no clear resolution timeline.
