Jordan recorded US$1.14 billion in tourism revenue in August 2026 according to preliminary central bank data - a 17.2 percent increase on August 2025. The result lifts total receipts for the first eight months of the year to approximately US$5.5 billion.
August Was the Strongest Month of the Year
August sits at the peak of Jordan’s incoming season, when visitor numbers from the Gulf states, Europe, and North America are at their highest. The 17.2 percent year-on-year growth rate is above the full-year trajectory and suggests the summer months outperformed expectations against a solid 2025 baseline.
Petra remains the dominant driver of length-of-stay and per-visitor spend. Visitors to the ancient city typically extend their Jordan trip to include Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, which multiplies spending on accommodation, guided tours, and transport across the country.
Context: Recovery After September Disruption
The strong August data pre-dates a period of regional security tensions in early September that temporarily affected flight schedules and short-term bookings. A recovery in bookings had already been reported by mid-September, and the August revenue figures underline the underlying strength of demand for Jordan as a destination when conditions are stable.
The Autumn Window Remains Open
Autumn - September through November - is Jordan’s second peak season. Temperatures across the country drop to comfortable levels for hiking the Jordan Trail, visiting Petra, and exploring Wadi Rum. Visitor numbers are typically lower than August, which means shorter queues, more availability in the main hotels, and better access to Petra’s key monuments before the winter crowds thin out further.
